project name
Department of Premier and Cabinet - Government Entities Database.
the aim
The Government Entities Database (GED) is a database of NSW Government Entities maintained by the Department of Premier and Cabinet (DPC). Government Entities change over time and there can be complex relationships between the Entities and associated items. DPC required an effective and efficient way to manage information about all NSW Government Entities.
the solution
The GED is a web based application using:
- Windows server
- Microsoft .Net Framework
- SQL Server
- SQL Server Reporting Services
- ASP.NET MVC Framework
- Entity Framework
There are five main items managed in GED. These are:
- Entities (Departments, boards, committees etc.)
- Ministers
- Portfolios
- Clusters
- Entity Members (Board members etc.)
Both the items and the relationships between the items are recorded and managed in GED. This data also changes over time and GED provides the tools for storing time based data and viewing data at a nominated point in time.
Entity data is entered, maintained and reported within the GED web application. The application is stored centrally and creates a level of transparency around the Government Entities information. Different stakeholders can access GED to utilise the information and there level of access can be controlled by DPC.
